Art Recipes
SLIME
1 - Bottle glue (Elmer's works the best)
1 - Foam Shaving Cream (only if you want puffy paint) you will only need some of it, not all
Contact eye solution - this is the activator, you will add a little at a time and mix, you do not need a lot OR
Baking Soda - a teaspoon diluted in 1/2 cup water - add a little at a time (this is also an activator)
Color - either paint (drops), food coloring, colored glue, or just use glitter and no color
*an activator is to make everything stick together, too much activator will make it break apart. Add a little and then mix for a while, when it starts pulling off the sides of the bowl you are good. When it starts cleaning the bowl for you, you can then kneed it like bread dough. The more you kneed it the more the activator works.
** IF you get it in your hair or clothes, use vinegar to get out.
SIDEWALK PAINT
¼ cup corn starch
¼ cup water then add 5 to 10 drops of food coloring for best blending
Combine in blender for best mixture. Prior to using blender, ask parent permission
Sidewalk paint is best applied with a ceiling paint level brush or roller. In a pinch, an old car sponge will work too. As always, ask your parents prior to using their tools. Promise to clean up after yourself.
The sidewalk paint washes off horizontal cement after one strong rain storm. It will last considerably longer if applied to vertical surfaces.
Homemade Play Dough
MATERIALS
● 2 cups all-purpose flour
● 3/4 cup salt
● 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
● 2 cups lukewarm water
● 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil (coconut oil works too)
OPTIONAL: FOOD COLORING
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Stir together the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a large pot. Next add the water
and oil. If you’re only making one color, stir in the color now.
2. Cook over medium-heat, stirring constantly. Continue stirring until the dough has
thickened and begins to form into a ball. Remove from heat and then place inside
a bowl, gallon sized bag or onto wax paper.
3. Allow to cool slightly and then knead until smooth. If you’re adding colors after,
divide the dough into balls (for how many colors you want) and then add the
dough into the quart sized bags. Start with about 5 drops of color and add more
to brighten it. Knead the dough, while inside the bag so it doesn’t stain your
hands. Once it’s all mixed together, you’re ready to PLAY.
4. Store the play dough inside the bags to keep soft. If stored properly it will keep
soft for up to 3 months.
